Today we accomplished our first 100 km day. We followed primarily roads from Eberstadt to Heidelberg, where we stopped for a quick lunch from a Schnellimbiss (quick snack joint). We looked for an internet cafe in Heidelberg, but were told that although one used to exist in Heidelberg, it had been burglerized and forced to close down. After Heidelberg we followed bike paths and bike routes along the Neckar river, including one ferry ride across the Neckar, until we reached Neckargerach.
I had the pleasure today of watching Matt attempt to pass an old man who was standing on the middle of the path facing the other way. The man didn't hear Matt coming, and just as Matt passed, the old man tossed aside a walnut or something which hit Matt square on the knee. The man turned around and saw me riding along with a big smile on my face. He smiled back, and as I passed him I told him, "Danke."
