Today we rode from Esslingen to Tuebingen, where we stopped to search for an internet cafe and have lunch. We finally found the internet cafe, but it was closed. So we just settled for a mediocre lunch of overly cheesy vegetarian lasagne at a restaurant where the waiter primarily sat and watched Formula 1 racing on a big screen TV. After lunch we rode all the way down to Hechingen, where we found lodging only after inquiring at several hotels and Gasthofs. The hotel where we at last got a room was nice, but could have benefited from a heater that actually worked.
It got quite cold mid-day and sprinkled some. Matt and I put on our full rain gear, including for the first time our rain pants and booties. We weren't overly hot in these outfits until later in the afternoon when it stopped raining, the sun began making occasional appearances, and we started climbing uphill. Today's weather made me realize that I need a rain jacket that has a hood and perhaps something extra to warm my ears.
